Just look at your x value and see how many it is off from 4. there is a distance of 7 between -3 and 4. If you want a formula, it would be abs(x1-x2)

The distance (shortest) form a point to a line is defined as the perpendicular distance from the point to the line, therefore from x=-3 to x=4 is 7 units.

the distance of a point from a line is defined as the shortest distance from the point to the line, so answer 1 is correct.

MLB's answer is the SHORTEST distance.

You could also go to any other point on x=4.

That means that your answer would be:
"Greater than or equal to abs(x1-x2)."

EDIT:
I still like my answer better...
There is a difference between "distance" and "shortest distance."

The shortest distance is included in my answer.

The shortest distance is not valid for the entire line, but only for one point on the line.
