If it says Beef, then it's a cow, if it says Chicken, then it's a chicken, if it says Meat meal, or meat by products, it could be just about anything.

You really do not wanna to know right? Those dog food that you buy are from parts of the cows or chicken or another raised fowls etc that humans do not use for eating and cooking parts. (sometimes byproducts) Unless you buy the really good organic meaty dog food, then they will use real meaty meat meat.

It really depends on the dog food. Anything from lamb, chicken, or beef to venison or duck. Personally, I'd say avoid the brands with mystery meat. There's no telling what that is.

Some dogs foods will use meat obtained from a rendering plant and could contain diseased livestock, dead rotting roadkilll(any kind of wild life or domestic pet) could also contain domestic pets that were euthanized,
This is one of the reason I do not feed pet foods that contain unspecified meats in their ingredient listings,
The food that will contain such will have words like , meat, meat meal , meat by products, animals fats, meat broth etc

For dry kibble it is horses. Unless it is says, "Beef Cuts in Gravy," or lists chicken or lamb, it is horses. When you read the label, it will list "animal protein" -- that means the whole horse: flesh, organs, etc. The bones and hoofs are used for glue. Another thing to look for on the list of ingredients is "reprocessed" or "recycled" animal protein. That is chicken poop. Or pig poop. This is generally in dry, kibble food.

None actually. Since the US Congress passed the anti-horse slaughter law (whatever your opinion on that) "meaty" dog food, is just flavored with chemicals!
(Sort of like cafeteria food!)

Read the label. It usually specifies. Sometimes it's horsemeat.
