First of all i have to say, 20 years old is not too old for anything, you have your whole life in front of you. It sounds like you need to ask yourself some questions and establish some goals.

What are your best and worst qualities?
What are you better at than anyone else you know?
What do your friends ask you for help with?
If you could picture the perfect career, what would it be?

If you're not working towards a career goal while you're in school, you may be wasting your money. Trust me, you don't want to finish school with a huge debt and a useless degree.

Once you have decided what you want to do with your life careerwise, research the nessecary steps you need to take to get there. They may include school, they may not. A part-time job while youre in school is good, as long as you can keep up with the work load. Start a savings program, like taking a certain amount of money out of each pay check and putting it into a seperate savings account. That way you can afford that car youre craving.

As for living with your mom, think of it this way. If youre living at home, youre saving a lot of money. Therefore, when youre done school, you'll have more money to spend on a down payment for a house, rather than a crappy apartment (which is what your classmates will be living in for awhile).

It may seem like there are plenty of 20 year olds with careers, but if you take a closer look, their lives aren't as great as you think. Youre 20's is a time in your life when you discover who you are and what makes you happy. Most of these people may be doing something they like now, but they'll hit their 30's and realize they've missed a big chunk of they're lives... it's called a mid life crisis, you don't want to have one. Also, give yourself some time to have fun in your 20's and not be so serious, so that when you do get a career and a house and bills, you won't feel like you missed out on anything.

I hope i helped a little bit. I'm 21 and no where near closer to a career than you are. But i know what i want to do, and i'm working towards it, having as much fun as i can in the process.

Good Luck to you.

It sounds to me like you are doing way better than those friends who supposedly have careers at age 20. I doubt very much that someone who did not attend college has obtained a job that will turn out to be a career. You are so smart to save your money and live at home while attending college. A person who has a college degree can earn over a million dollars more during their career than someone who only finished HS. I think that is well worth waiting for!!

Stick it out, you will reap a lifetime of rewards!!!! BTW I have both my BS and my MEd degree, and did not get my first career job unitl I was 27. Same for my spouse. Today we own a beautiful home and a car,and live a great debt free, comfy lifestyle!! This is all b/c of the opportunities our education alowed us.

first you not too old. I am 24 just got my BS and just started my career. I suggest first find a job in the field you would like to work in as an intern or anything you could work your way up as you go. once you found that job then you can find a car something with in your budget. don't go getting something just because you can my first car coast me $1000 it was a good first car. as for getting your own apartment if you do that try doing that with a roommate that way you can share the bills and coast of food. if you can't find a roommate then i suggest waiting till you finish school its okay to live with mom if you go to school.( but do try to help out around the hose be buying food or doing your own laundry cleaning and /or cooking) if you do that mom may not be so quick to kick you out.

Hope this helps and try not to stress out to much you still have time. Don't slack but you can relax a little.

I always want what I don't have too, you will get some of what you want in the future, and then feel unhappy again and want more untill you realize that you need to slow down and enjoy the day because it's all you really have.

What? You are twenty years old, how can you say that life is passing you by. You are wrong my friend. I am forty-one, and guess what, I have never felt life is passing me by. Slow down a bit. Things will happen eventually.
