My boyfriend and his friend will be moving into an apartment at the end of the summer. They will be moving out of their parents' homes. I won't be moving in with them until a few months after they move in, but I will be helping with bills and groceries and the like. I want to have a housewarming party for them; a small get-together of our close friends and family. (A tiny place indeed, but I think we could pull it off).
Anyway, I want to buy, or preferably make, them a housewarming gift. Even though I will be living there eventually, I am a tomboy, so I am okay with having a "masculine" theme to the aparment.
I LOVE crafts, so if you have any ideas on things I could make for them, please let me know.
K, thanks.

They love when I make little things for them.
They are really looking forward to seeing what
I make for them. It's... weird. Heh.
I like to melt plastic beads and shape them into
bowls and plates. That's one thing. But still...

Well, my nephew, who just moved into an apartment with his girlfriend, swears a big screen tv is the best gift anyone could ever give as a housewarming gift (hint hint). However, he ain't getting that from me. You could make pot holders and dishtowels (crochet?), area rugs for the bathroom that can easily be washed, curtains. You could make some sort of not-obvious-to-the-uninitiated "thing" for each of you to hang on your doors to indicate you have company and/or "do not disturb." You could start a spare change bank in a big empty wine bottle (bit one, or water jug or something) for everyone to dump change into so when it's full you can throw a party with the money. A "CARE" package full of useful things like bottle opener, cork screw, kitchen timer, microwave-proof things, ketsup, mustard (basic condiments and things), salt & pepper shakers, a big stack of paper plates/plastic forks (etc.). Or you could stock the frig with edibles (probably things you don't have to cook--unless someone is into cooking)--salamis, cheese, bread, juice, etc. A nice photos in frames ready to be hung would help decorate walls. Big duffle bags for dirty laundry (with each's name on each), filled with laundry soap and stuff.

I don't know if you are into music much, but I thought of this a craft I watched on TV. You take an old record, put it on top of a hot metal bowl (or oven safe bowl) which is turned upside down, then stick it in the oven for a five minutes (not many more minutes longer than that) on 200-250 degrees. Then take it out of the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.
The only downside, they don't hold liquids...
Not only will you/they have cool bowls to put chips and popcorn in, but they will also be cool conversational pieces... perfect for your party.

You will have plenty of time for making things for the apartment. Get something practical for them, because your friends will want to purchase or make things for them. So go purchase in bulk (if there is storage) paper towels, toilet paper, sugar, flour, etc., the basic staples that you don't have to buy every week at the grocery store. That will be a huge help to them.

Guys don't really care about this sort of thing, but it is possible to wow them if you show them you really know them and "get" them. Men are all about entertainment and food, so maybe you could make a nice caddy to hold all their remote controls, or invent a cool way for them to get snacks..

Guys in their first place usually (a) need dishes and glasses and silverware and (b) they don't know it, or just don't get it.
It's not that expensive; I saw a pretty good service for four of plates and bowls and silverware and coffee mugs for under $20 recently.

Somethings that people never think about when moving into their own first place are basic cooking necessities or cleaning necessities. We gave an apartment shower for my brother and his best friend when they got their first apartment and gave them stuff like vacuum cleaner, mop, dust pan, broom, toilet brush, cleaners, dish soap, dish cloths and my favorite.because I like to cook... Spices, and condiments (i.e., salt, pepper, mustard, catchup, cinnamon, etc.) .

You should make them a funky magazine rack for their bathroom.
Guys tend to spend a lot of time in the bathroom.

instead of choosing a gift for them, why dont you buy a gift certificate and let them choose what they want ;-)
