I've had some difficulties too on my first interview, but here are some of the guidelines I've learned when getting ready for my interview:
1) Dress professionally
2) Maintain 100% focus; don't stare or they may think you're stalking
3) Don't read a newspaper, before the interview; because the newsprint can come off and get on your hands, read a magazine if there is one or a book.
4) Have your resume in hand and portfolio or briefcase in handy.
5) Try not to get nervious; take deep breaths and just relax
6) Keep a positive attitude; don't get to serious or goofy
7) Speak firmly and clearly so that the interviewer can hear well; don't speak too soft or loud.
8) Eat a little something before you goto your interview; like breakfast or lunch but remember to keep your teeth and breath clean after you eat (get a pocket tooth brush and mouthwash or altoids).
9) Study your resume, and answer the questions truthfully about you; never lie in an interview or struggle.
10) Don't hestitate because it's not a rush; cause you know you want the job badly, just be patient.
11) Don't slouch in the seal; just sit up straight and tall
12) Don't get mad if you feel presured; maintain calm
13) Stay on time; like arrive 15 minutes before your interview
(Tips:)
Be polite, friendly, and let the employer get to know you when you answer your questions.
And another thing this is, when you don't understand a question, just politely ask him/her to repeat the question ONLY once and he/she will respond.

DO be prepared. A bit of research on the company takes little time, but clearly shows your interest.
DO wear clean and neat clothing that is appropriate to the working environment.
DO take a restroom break immediately prior to arrival. Stop at a store or restaurant nearby to freshen up.
DO play close attention to your appearance. Comb your hair just prior to entering the building; brush your teeth and check your breath; check your clothes for dangling strings, missing buttons, pet hair, etc. also check your make-up and teeth for lipstick if you are female.
DO arrive about 15 minutes early.
DO be energetic, friendly and polite....... and smile!
DO make eye contact, shake hands and speak clearly.
DO ask questions about the duties of the job and be prepared to answer their questions such as what you have to offer and what you expect in return.
DO be confident and positive. The goal is to sell yourself to the interviewer.
DO take an extra copy of your resume and references. If you do not have a briefcase, invest in a leather or vinyl covered document folder to carry them in.
DO have a pen AND a pencil with you (preferably in the same place as your resume...not in a purse). Write legibly.
DO thank them personally for the opportunity and follow up with a letter.
DONT take a friend along for moral support.
DONT chew gum. If your breath is questionable, use breath mints.
DONT wear too much make-up or cologne.
DONT slouch.
DONT play with your hair, bite your nails, fidget or giggle.
DONT eat onions, beans or garlic prior to the meeting.
DONT take your cell phone with you. Leave it in the car.
DONT gossip, use profanity or tell rude jokes.
DONT speak badly of your current or former employers.
DONT lie or volunteer more information than they request.
DONT snoop if the interviewer leaves the room. You never know if there is a hidden camera in the room.
NEVER let them see you sweat!

Here are some helpful advices:
-Research about the company/job
-Be at least half an hour early
-Go over letters that they sent you to make sure what they want you to do
-Use formal words and complete sentences
-Dress to success [no jeans or casual wear]
-Be prepared!
**They would want to know what you can do for them rather than what they can do for you...
