i know winnipeg has a high urban aboriginal population, but how integrated are the natives in with the rest of the population....i mean do they live in their own neighborhoods or are they mixed in all over the city?
and if they have their own neighborhoods, are the areas exclusively native, or just mostly native....or mostly white with a higher than average native population?

The Native population of Winnipeg tend to stick together, like other visible minority groups. In the Native's case, there are a few areas. They are the Downtown area, North End areas. There are a few reasons for this.
1) People like to be near friends, or people they have more in common with. Many of the Natives come to Winnipeg to get away from the reserves. Coming from a reserve where there is a low population to "the big city" is quite an overload on the senses. Being around people who relate to what you are going through is a good grounding point. Many times the people around you are family too.
2) The North end and Downtown areas tend to be older homes and lower income areas. Unfortunately, the Native population tends to be lower educated and not able to get the higher paying jobs to afford to live elsewhere. It is a vicious circle where you want to work in a good job, but can't afford the meal on the table, never mind the suit to wear. The education funds are there, but are not used by enough of the people eligible. The same poorer areas do have some low income groups of other nationalities, but mostly native.
3) There is a bit of racism in Winnipeg. It goes both ways too. The "us" and "them" mentality. It is not just white people and native people. Some of the worst racism I have seen has been between Philipino and Native street gangs. The racism between groups also means you are less likely to see a lot on integration in housing too. (and I am not saying "everyone" who is a certain colour of skin or ethnic group is racism....but when I moved to Winnipeg it was apparent from comments I heard)

From my experience, most aboriginals can be found in and around the downtown core, including the west end and north end neighbourhoods.
I don't have exact statistical data, but my assumption would be mostly white with a higher than average native population

well the trend seems to be, fewer natives the further south you get in the city. The opposite goes for other nationalities. My dad works for the province and says that the government seems to be trying to spread the native communities out throught the city. I live just south of downtown and there is some rental housing right near me that a lot of native families live in, but besides that my community seems mostly "white" and then south of us i rarely see native families. So I guess the answer would be, there seems to be clusters of native populations but they just get less concentrated as you leave the north end. hope that helped!

There are people of aboriginal ancestry all over the city, save for the very wealthiest areas, which tend to be Scottish or Jewish. So level of interaction between middle class aboriginals and nonaboriginals is quite high. However, the aboriginal underclass is heavily concentrated in the city's north end.

The CBC recently had a documentary on one of the burroughs of Winnipeg. I believe it was Point Douglas but not positive.
The show talked about the low income, rampant drug use, crime rates and high suicide rate in this area of town. In this area they were talking about, people didn't bother breaking into your house to steal your TV, instead they would steal the contents of your freezer because you had food and they didn't.
They also mentioned that the area was one of the largest populations of aboriginal people in the city.

Yeah they pretty much have their own neighborhoods, which not to be rascist, are pretty dumpy. But there are some white people mixed in with the bunch. They all just tend to be kinda trashy...

There is alot downtown. There is no exclusive area. Usually the ones who live in any other area then downtown are ' cleaner ' if you know what I mean. The ones that live downtown are usually in gangs and are drunks.
