What's the first thing you think when you read or hear the word....hemp?

Do you think of drugs or do you think of a usefull renewable resource? Does it bring to mind bongs and pipes or comfortable clothing and moisturisers? Do you know much about the history of hemp? What des the word HEMP make you think about?

It's interesting so many said 'rope', but as a textile it has so many more uses than that.
The first pair of Levi's were made out of hemp and with out hemp sails the USA and many other countries would never have been discoverd. Sails made from flax for example rotted within 3 months at sea.
I've been learning about the history of hemp lately and I'm amazed by the many uses of it over history. Hemp seed oil has many nutritional and medicinal uses also. Hemp seeds are one of the rare sources of gamma linoleic (GLA) which is a substance found in human milk, so it seems to be a natural thing to add to babies first solids when weaning off milk.
Hemp and marijuanna are both varieties of Cannabis but industrial hemp contains only 0.3% or less of THC where marijuanna contains up to 30%. All a person will get from smoking hemp or hemp clothing/rope is a very bad headache and no high at all.

A person who is use to smoking hemp, which is called marijuana, will think of this material as a source of their pleasure, and will think of a bong or marijuana pipe.

I am a student of history , of sorts, and I myself remember what Hemp use to be used for before someone put fire to it and put it to their mouth to smoke it.

here is the history. Years ago farmers use to grow hemp, then when the plant got tall enough they would pound the stalks into shreds, and weave the fibers into ropes. A Hemp rope is very strong. I was saddened to learn that hemp is now illegal because people use it as a drug. I would like a hemp rope myself, but I am afraid some idiot would try to smoke my rope! Ah the pity that some people have learned to use a formerly innocent plant to become the Devil"s smoke.

It would be nice if Hemp could become a useful plant once more.
