or do you think that our lives are dictated by circumstances beyond our control?

I think it is a bit of both. Many events, circumstances, changes in life are beyond anyone's control. But how one deals with them, how one faces them, the person one becomes and the life one lives - that is entirely up to the individual. How you live your life is what matters and is not dictated by anyone.

You can PLAN to build a house if you have all the money you need, you can lay the foundation, build extra strong walls, paint it exactly the color you want, and plant all the gardens you want. BUT, if a freaking tornado hits it, you are SOL! So, yes, you are the "master of your own destiny", assuming God doesn't have a beef with ya! :)

i think that we're the masters of our own destiny. i don't wanna get all religious (i'm not into religion- more spiritual) or nothing, but the "Higher Power" (whether it be God, Allah, Buddah...) put us on this earth for a purpose and it is up to us to live up to that purpose. and alot of people don't even find their destiny until later on in life.
