i have lived in california my whole life and want to go to south dakota for college. you think its a good idea?

Why not? You should always try new things... depends on what you like to do and where in CA you lived! Hope it works out!!!

If the college suits you for what you want to study, take a trip there and visit the college before you decide.
It is a cold state. It is a far cry from California.
Monetary wise, it is kind of strange to go from a state that has excellent colleges that are very inexpensive for in-state students to a college in a midwest state you know nothing about and you would be paying out-of-state tuition.
Still, college is the time to try different things. Visit the college before you make any decisions.

Make sure you research the college first because being unhappy in South Dakota isn't a good thing...
