Don't worry about them. And don't judge a discipline by its participants. You sing because you love it. And if you do this vehemently enough, and really stick to it, people will read this on you and respect you for it, and though you may have difficulties on the way, you will be the better for it. Also, consider the fact that your school choir teacher probably didn't choose that profession because he/she wanted to. They probably got stuck with it cause they had a music degree and weren't good enough or didn't have the drive to go into performance or professional instruction...

Well, I don't want sound mean but you should be very realistic about this dream. Afterall, how many people actually do become professional singers? Even if they are really good. If this is something you want to persue, then by all means. You only live once, so why not do something you love?
You could try our for American/Canadian Idol (or wherever you live). Or you could post videos of you singing on Youtube, it's a great way to get noticed. Go to local talent shows they may have in your town/city and try out there.
Keep in mind though, if everybody is telling you that you aren't the best singer, don't get mad at them. Try taking their criticism as a way to improve. You should have a back up career just in case this one doesn't work out for you. Also, getting professional lessons couldn't hurt. Good luck.

That's just her own personal opinion. That's how the business is as well. There's going to be those who like you, but unfortunately those who don't. Singers who have made it professionally have gone through the same thing -- most have probably worked hard to get where they are, and lots of labels have rejected them before. But they kept trying and seeking other opportunites to succeed, and that's what you have to do. Good luck.

maybe youre tone def.. im not.. and i know when i suck when i sing... but i hardly do and thats real... but if you want to get better quitting really isnt the right thing to be doing.... what doesnt kill you only will make you stronger.. and if it dont make you stronger then hopefully itll make you a better singer...

Take some voice lessons and practice. Don't take their criticism too personally.
