First and foremost, you must treat the cat. Try either Advantage, or if your cat goes outside use Frontline. Do not buy any other brands, products such as Hartz do not work. It is a waste of money. Keep in mind that if your house is infested, one dose will not solve the problem. Since it is getting warmer you should apply the flea control every 30 days until after the second good frost. If you live in a year around warm climate, apply it each month. Yes it will be costly however, it will eliminate the problem you are now having. Also, as others have said, you will need to treat the environment (i.e. foggers, washing everything in hot water, vacuum thoroughly). You should take your cat to the vet for a flea bath and if the infestation is terrible they can administer a medicine that will kill all the live fleas on the cat at that time. However, as I said before you will STILL need to apply a topical product 24 to 48 hours after the bath.

The best stuff is "Advantage" flea product for animals, available at WalMart or the vet. A couple drops on the cat's head and the fleas will die after they bite the cat. If they have infested your house, you may have to call an exterminator, but they might just crawl onto the cat again, bite the cat and die. So try the Advantage and see if the problem takes care of itself. The hardware store used to sell "no-pest strips" you hang in the house for flies, etc. If you can find them, put them in their holder and put it on the floor behind the couch, etc - fleas aren't listed among the bugs this product kills, but it also works for fleas. To see if they are gone, a flea trap is a white cereal bowl of water on the floor, with a lamp on with the light shining over it (at night of course). Check in the morning for drowned fleas. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

You have to bomb your house, of not they will not die and your pet will keep getting them. Its not that big of a deal. Go to Menards or your local home center and they sell cans of flea bomb. You have to leave the house for a couple of hours and get your pets out of t he house as well. Place them bombs like the directions say and leave. Then in a couple of hours you come back and open your windows for an hour to air it out. You will have to do this twice because flea eggs can decide when to hatch. With the first bomb, some of them will wait a while. That is why you have to do it twice. Trust me, I had a flea epidemic and I tried everything also. If I would have known to do this from the start it would have saved me a lot of money and time. Make sure that any dishes that you have out are washed really well before using after you bomb.

Advantage and Frontline are the BEST! There is NO NEED to treat the environment. I don't understand how it works, but 2 weeks after the treatment, ALL fleas are gone.

Take the cat to the vet and get a flea bath for it and then set off flea bombs in your house. One on every level including the basement.

Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.

the best thing i found is regular ole salt. just sprinkle it all over your carpet. leave it for a couple of hours then vacuum it up. what happens is the salt takes the oxygen out of the air and they cant breath. i thought it was a joke when i heard of it too. but it worked.
