Here is WHY. First of all UCLA & Kansas were the last two contenders for the last #1 seed in the tournament. So, logically they were put as #1 & #2 in the same region. Then since the #1 seeds are arranged according to their closeness to the regiional final location. Since KU is the closest of Florida, NC, & Ohio State to San Jose, they were put in that region along with the Bruins. Setting up today's meeting in San Jose

A couple of things to keep in mind.

UCLA was considered the best number 2 seed and Kansas was considered the worst number one seed, so on paper they are really the 4th and 5th best teams overall in the tournament. I think to make things as even as possible, they placed these teams in the West region. It seemed to give UCLA a slight advantage, but keep in mind Kansas had a lot of fans in that building.

It is because at the beginning of the year the committee establishes where the regions will take place. The best teams get the regions closest to them and because Kansas was the last #1 seed they got the last one which was San Jose. UCLA got lucky being in that region.

UCLA plays in Westwood over 400 miles away, and they don't decide were the West Regional Finals are played the NCAA does....... Maybe Kansas should have been in another region, I mean UCLA was a #1 team in the country for over 6 weeks this season and one of the top teams in the country going into the tournament..... And since they're in the west what region should they play in......??????

Next years Final Four is all ready determined where it will be played and guess what, so is where the regional games are to be played. So it's all determined by your teams record, seating in the tournament, and location in the country.

This site was detirmined way before the tournament started or the bracket was set. It was just the luck of the draw that UCLA got a good location. Texas A&M also got lucky and had the advantage of playing their elite eight game in San Antonio, Texas, but they still ended up losing.
