I have an acquaintance at work who is a higher up. When we first met, I told her I would dress more professionally if I could afford it. In the years since, she had been hard to deal with. Kind of a workplace bully. The other day she gave me a bag of some of her old clothes which were really nice, and said, "I think you might want these." I took them and noticed they had a really strange odor. Like perfume but with more of a chemical smell. When I tried them on, I became extremely itchy. I washed them on cold and even warm about ten times, using different combinations of vinegar and detergent in an effort to remove the irritant. I took two of the expensive pieces to a drycleaner and that took care of the problem. The rest of the clothes are still airing out in a corner of my house. I have had them for about a month. When I walk by them, I feel sick. I am starting to feel paranoid, like she poisoned the clothes or something.

She keeps asking me about them. Should I tell her about the problem, give them away, or give them back. Have you ever heard of someone poisoning clothes before? It is really scaring me. I know she has always been jealous of me, and competetive with me. She is a higher up and often steals my ideas and takes credit at work. What would you do?

Honestly I would go with your gut instinct and get them out of your house. If the clothes were sprayed with something it could cause headaches if not more. I would return them to her and tell her thank you for the nice gesture but that they just arent going to work for you and tell her you will gladly hand them over to her closest friend at work (and see what she says about that.)

Keep the ones you've already paid to be professionally washed.. Give the rest back to her. Say you appreciate them, but that they don't fit right. Then there is no confrontation and you don't have to be weirded out by them. Sounds like the "nice" clothes are not worth the stress they are creating.....good luck.

Why is she so concerned with what you wear? I don't think she poisoned the clothes, but I do think she wore them over and over with that stinky a** perfume! How dare she want you to wear those old nasty items. Tell her that you could not get the scent out of them and that you are allergic to that perfume!!!! Tell her anything, but don't cause any office drama. Also tell her "Thanks but No Thanks!"
You don't have to dress how she wants you to dress. You can find nice suits inexpensively. Every paycheck, just buy one new work outfit.

Take the rest to the cleaners. If it worked the first time, it should work on the less expensive stuff too. It is possible that she put itching powder in them, that would explain why it didn't wash out. You need special cleaners to get it out of fabric.

Geez, that's really strange. I don't think there's a way to poison clothes. But you could take a peice in somewhere and have it lab tested to see if there are any chemicals added to it to irritate your skin. How could someone be that mean, if she did? Be wary of her.

That's creepy. I wouldn't trust her if she had been mean to me throughout your time at work. Take the rest of them to the drycleaner, but if that doesn't help, then throw them away. If anything serious happened, then report it to your boss or something.

well you could take them to the police and tell them you suspect someone is trying to poison you, and they could have their lab test the clothes .... if she is trying to hurt you they can arrest her and you won't have to deal with her at work any more. but if she's just had them in mothballs or something that might be kind of embarassing.
good luck!

Tell her. Say "Umm... Oh yeah, about your clothes when I had tried them on they felt itchy and uncomfortable. Is like you put itching powder in them, ha ha ha! Like you would do that. But yeah on all of them they felt itchy so can I give them back to you. Plus..." If she is bigger than you than say"...they were to big..." If she is smaller than you then say "...they were to small, so here you go!" When you say "...its like you put itching powder in them" then look at her face see what her reaction is. Hoped I helped! ♥
