I ask because I am currently having some problems- I was forced to spend most of my childhood alone and I am wondering about the consequences.

people(children) are different. Some kids can come from good loving homes and come out useless adults. And some kids can come from abusive homes and be President of their companies. Its hard to say what is going to cause a negative effect. As a parent all you can do is do the best you can and try to bring your children up in the best possible environment.

Well looks like you lucked out with your question because it just so happens that I spent most of my time on my own during my childhood and even now. In the long term it makes the child more intelligent and stronger as an individual. I think for myself rather than allow myself to be influenced by the stupidity of my peers. I don't spend much time with my so called peers and therefore don't feel any pressure to conform. I feel that my time not spent at parties or with friends has been a very positive thing in my life. Yes this did hurt my social skills but I found that within the last couple years my formerly non-existent social skills have quickly developed. Society should put more emphasis on developing as an individual rather than socializing. Our current focus on being social has created people that can't stand to be alone with their own thoughts. Aside from a girlfriend I really don't want or need anyone to hang out with for the most part.

I spent a lot of time on my own as a child, both parents worked full time. During school holidays I used to learn new skills such as sewing, knitting, painting etc. My parents always provided me with the means and encouraged my hobbies. I learnt how to be alone and not to rely on other people to make me happy which in turn makes life easier when you're an adult. It is important to be happy with yourself.....only then can you be good company for others.

They will not learn how to mantain and keep relationships and friendships and they will most likely remain alone in their adulthood since they lacked the development skills needed for creating relations. They may grow up lonely, leading to depression, maybe rebellion. They may even become what is now labeled as "sociopaths".

Anyways- hopefully no child is made to spend most of their time alone and this is just a hypothetical question for reasons of discovery. However, if there is or if you have any questions, feel free to email me. God luck! :-)

There a lot that can happened for one they can develop mental illness for two they may have problems trusting and problems with relationships( and that goes for all types . If you think you maybe having problems because of it I would tell you to go see a counselor or if you can't I would find a support team and maybe wright in a journal so you can see what happened with you. Good luck and don't hold any feeling in because this may make it worst find someone to talk to. God be with you

Depending on what they are taught to utilize that time for...It could be a great experience, teaching them self reliance and discipline. On the other hand, it could be detrimental to the way the interact with others. Every child is different. Anti-social behavior is easy to define.

i think they would just forget how to socialise, with them being on their own most the time they'd forget how to act in social situations. they may find it difficult to make friends, or to express their opinions. if they don't have many friends they they may feel lonely or even depressed.
but nothing that cant be solved with the company of friends and family.

You become self-reliant, independent and able to occupy your-self. On the negative side social skills suffer.
