If you don't have a certain commitment to MapleStory, you will never get far in it. If you plan on playing alone the whole way, don't even bother making an account (as in no friends, partying, or Party Quests). I'm pretty biased against this game after playing it for a bit (stopped at Lvl. 34). In the simplest sense, leveling up is basically grinding at the same monster for ~5-10+ levels (after you get job advancement) before moving on to the next monster for that same amount of levels. Not only that, but there will always be someone much stronger than you grinding at every suggested leveling spot (mages or thieves mostly). In my opinion, the experience rate in the game is too unfair for people playing without friends. On a different note, controls for this game are some of the simplest I've played in an online game. Arrow Keys to move and easy keyboard customizing, putting in skills/items onto any key by drag and drop or taking out/switching Keyboard functions in the same manner. For games I may suggest, try ROSE Online (you may or may have not heard of it before), a 3D MMORPG from the creators of Ragnarok online. I believe the leveling is much quicker in this game as compared to MapleStory, allowing access to the better areas faster. The Skill system may be confusing at first, but should be understandable after looking at it closer.

Have you tried Toontown Online? It's a 3d game made by the Disney Corporation. Your enemies there are robots called cogs. And guess what! They use jellybeans as money. Best of all, you have your own house where you can buy stuff for it. In the game, you can find Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Clarabelle. Visit http://www.toontown.com/ for more information.

The Page
This is a defensive class. It relies on reducing enemy attack, enemy defense
and damage taken. Pages are able to use swords or blunt weapons. They are
average for leveling up, yet are a solid class that shows off warrior power
well. They are not a weak class whatsoever. Pages get no HP bonus at 2nd job
but get 100-200 more MP
