Does drinking take you closer or farther away from the "real" you?

Some people just become completely different when they are drunk which makes me wonder...

What do you think?

Is this who they REALLY are? I mean, if drinking makes you "let go", then by not caring about what others think of you and how you should act, you're just being yourself.

So in that sense, couldn't a person LEARN more about themselves and others by observing who they are when they're drunk?

Or would you say that drinking takes you FARTHER away from the "real" you by manipulating your thoughts, increasing sex drive, ect?

Being drunk breaks down boundaries between who you are and who people want to see you as. It is the real you. When people say 'I didn't mean it I was drunk,' what they really want to say is 'I didn't mean for you to find that out I was drunk.' Drinking doesn't increase sex drive, your sex drive is the same. Your standards, however, are lower because you are not thinking clearly.
People already know the things in themselves that come out when they are drunk, it's what they really think and really feel, and what they supress the rest of the time.
When I'm drunk I'm more me, I talk to myself more and I get really stubborn, these are things I definetly supress when I am sober for obvious reasons. I'm me the rest of the time, just a more bearable version. I've gotten pretty crazy when I was drunk, but nothing that made me or other people go I can't believe she did that.

Alcohol is a depressant that seems to release inhibitions in most people. I would not say that it reveals the real you, but it does expose part of you. Hopefully you are not getting drunk so often that you are creating a set second personality. A drunk person has less control of both their physical and mental capacities. A drunk person is also more intently impacted by the circumstances of the situation. So, depending on how controlled the environment is may impact the mood or responses. It is much easier to do things you might regret later when drunk.
Certainly most people get a sense of euphoria or good feelings, but I have seen some mean drunks too.
In answering your question, I would say neither, it reveals part of you, which is easily influenced.

First I want to say this is a good question.

But I think in a senses it takes you away from who you are when your drunk but you do intent to say thinks or even tell on yourself because of the alcohol . I think being drunk you lose control of who you are and what and how you feel about things and being in this state people can take advantage of you. Good luck and I hope this help you.

At any point of time there are weird and strange thoughts running trough your mind, What if i do this? or Shout out loud? etc, but you don't because your in control, when you drink or get high, you loose that control and do any and every thing that comes in your mind. so yes a guess you could say that being drunk brings out the real you.

A good buzz lowers inhibition...Being drunk screws up your judgment and takes you further away from being the real you...

Good question. I think that when you are drunk you are less inhibited. You do things that you may not have done if your sober but they could be things that you deep down really wanted to do.

I think drinking takes you further away from yourself. It slows you down and makes you feel worse, not like the regular you.

It depends. If the "real you" is a drunk, than yes. If not, then no.

Very interesting and important question. I have no verifiable answer for you, but hopefully someone will let us know. In my experience, I've seen things that would validate either theory.

May God bless you.
