Cellulose spray is insulation, so I assume you mean in place of batt insulation.

For new construction, a good cellulose such as NuWool is excellent in the walls and attic. Properly installed, it tends to be more efficient than batt insulation, as it has no joints and spaces and fills in around pipes, wires, and electrical boxes perfectly.

I worked as a builder for years, and have had many satisfied homeowners with cellulose insulation.

Find a cellulose that is treated for fire resistance, mildew resistance and insect resistance. Most are treated with borates and other compounds that make them more mold and mildew resistant than fiber insulations.

As a home builder, I avoid cellulose insulation. Cellulose is ground up paper that is chemically treated. Paper does absorb moisture and mold does feed on paper products. The absorption of moisture also causes compression, which in turn minimizes your R-factor. That is why in attics it tends to compact over the years and loses it effectiveness. I much prefer virgin-spun fiberglass because it doesn't absorb moisture and maintains it R-factor. In addition, it doesn't contain chemical additions. This is important to me because today's modern homes are very tight and people end up breathing the chemicals. Good luck.

Its a quick and easy way to insulate. just keep it away from can lights and don't block any attic vents. The only time you can use it is if you have knob and tube wireing. You can buy the insulation and rent the machine at some Homedepot stores.

If your using the hard on walls great, if youre using it in ceiling, hold the wiring above foam and cover light boxes with sofe foam in case you need to access them later. The foam is expensive, but will pay for itself over time...
