That's like saying the end justifies the means.
We need more situational information about the reason it was said.
I happen to disagree, but that's because I believe that statement was designed to hide a cruel intent.

I believe you have to be cruel to tell the truth and to educate. Being "kind" is subjective. I suppose kindness could be defined as either civility or truth told out of love.

there is a saying: "if you are kind to the cruel, you will be cruel to the kind", which means, in some circumstances, you MUST be cruel... anyway, I don't know if it's necessary in your everyday life...

Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind, and sometimes it's just fun to be cruel.

That's silly. And, it makes an oxymoron as you have written it. If you mean, Honesty, well, honesty is not always kind, but it is kinder than lies, and certainly NOT cruel.

Depending on the situation, it might be necessary.
For example:
Telling your best friend that her fiancé is cheating on her seems necessary.
Posting on Yahoo Answers that Die Gays 5 was conceived by fertilizing one of his mother's rotting eggs with dog vomit is of course true, but not really necessary.

I think that saying is the same as 'take the salt with the sugar'. A person has to understand both sides before they can be one or the other, I think.
