Congrats, daddy! How old is your pup?
I have a Black Lab too. Her name is Dodger..10 months old, 75 pounds. She chews on EVERYTHING, loves to dig, dig, dig holes in the yard, and LOVES to play ball! Labs are very spunky, loyal, lovable dogs, who love to run and fetch.
If yours is a young pup, you need to be wary of him jumping off of anything higher than his own height for a few months, at least. Labs are prone to hip dysplasia, which can be debilitating and painful for them. Mine has slight dysplasia, but we control it with medication. Her doctor thinks it's due in part to the fact that she basically gained 70 pounds in a few months. (She was 5 at birth.)
As far as names go, personally, I like giving my pets 'human names.' Jack, Max, Samson, Pete, are all cute boy names.

There is tons of information on the net about labs. Below are just a few. You can also find books in the library that are devoted to labs. Labs are such an all-american dog and some say they deserve an all-american name like Spot, or Fido, or something like that, but I say, pick one you like and that fits the dog. Who cares what others think. The dog will love you with whatever name you give it.

Look up Westminster kennel club, they will have care sheets on every breed imaginable and all the information on sizes, what to feed them and all.
As far as names depends is he a pet, are you going to use him for hunting? I mean some people like to name their retrievers after the ammo or guns they use.

train him!! also roll him over on his back, and make him look in your eyes. puppies don't want to do it, but you need to, to show him who is boss. labs are very smart so take him to a trainer and work on your commands. also get him neutered. it is so much healthier for him, it reduces the chance of him getting cancer and he will be less aggressive.
a cute name may be scooter, duke, dozer, jake, jack, dodger.
Also labs tend to gain weight easily, so make sure you have him on a strict meal plan and dont let him get into unattended food. talk to your vet about how much food you should be giving him and watch his weight constantly. they also tend to shed a lot so get a good vacuum and de-shedder tool. best of luck with your new pup, and make sure you become the boss.

Jake is a common name for a lab! also make sure they don't eat table scraps, let them run a lot and make sure you train them while they are young!
