For you smart azzes! When I say all of a sudden I mean within the past few years. Yes people had them but now people are getting them more than ever like it's something you can wash off when you no longer like it. Far too are doing it just to be doing it. That's dumb.
Have you ever seen tattoos on lod people. It looks like S**T. Think twice or get a very small one.

Because stupid people are being born every day. Picture this:

Old woman sitting in a resaurant. Drinking tea. She's wearing short sleeves. You notice a wrinkly colorful spot on her arm. You realize its a tatoo of a ______.

When you get old, tatoos fade and get really ugly. They're painful to have removed. I never want a tatoo.

They aren't such a big deal all of the sudden, I've had mine for 30+ years. I got them because my husband at the time liked them, now I'm stuck with them. Not that they can't be removed, but the scar is worse than the tat. I'm just happy mine don't show like so many of the girls today. Just in case your curious, they do still look good and I'm not letting my body fall apart so their still where their supposed to be.

Tattoos' date back to the beginning of time, when in the
cradle of civilization the Mesopotamians used them in their
pagan worship. Self Mutilation, human sacrafices and lots of blood was the name of the game in those days!

Today, folks are bored and looking for something to express
themselves with, and they think the pictures needled into their flesh will make them look good....There are great artists that Only do tattoos and I like to look at the artwork they do, but only on pictures, not on bodies. But I think i am in the minority now- a- days.
Yahoo! Search engine gave quite a few very fine sites. I picked this one as the best:

It's not all of a sudden. People have had tattoos for thousands of years, and I don't just mean Westerners. Look at the history of tattoos.

As for why I have them, one was just to see what it felt like, two were just body decorations, and one is a reminder of where I came from. My grandfather just passed away, so my next tattoo will be in memory of him; it'll be a picture of the plane he navigated on in WWII.

I wish that they weren't the latest craze. I cried when my son finally revealed a huge, Japanese serpent on the calf of his leg. Us mothers try so hard when caring for our children to prevent scraps or cuts that will leave a scar, and are thankful when our children are born without disfigurement of any kind and don't develop some incurable skin condition. And for you people to go out and deliberately mutilate your skin with tattoos is contradictory to a mother's wishes--at least, this mother's.

They've always been a big deal to those who have or want them. They are now just more publicized and accepted than they used to be.

dont have any...my boyfriend has a full sleeve...I guess people just want to express themselves in an artistic way....I think something fairly small is alright....but i dont like it all over the body...some people like the attention they get...some people get them in remembrance of someone (they loved) have passed on....there are a lot of reasons why people get them...some just want to be in"fashion"...they are popular....at my age I wouldnt get one...maybe would have years ago...but it wasnt popular like it is now.....

They have always been a big deal in some circles, they are just more accepted nowadays in our radical society. They can be nice if tasteful.
