What is it stained with?
Try rubbing alcohol/water mixture. Mix 1 part alcohol to 4 parts distilled water. When wiping off use a clean terry cloth towel not a paper towel, it has chemicals which may be absorbed into the etching.

if it is stained with grease of any sort, try lukewarm water and liquid dish soap.

hope that helps-
cheers!!

I regularly clean glass that comes from furniture factories, with grade 0000 steel wool. It will NOT scratch the glass, and gets calcium deposits off quickly.
