gum is more elastic than the foods we eat because it contains some rubber. the only kind of food that chemically gets broken down in your mouth are carbohydrates (sugar, bread, etc.) so if any part of the gum would be broken down it would only be the sugar

cause the particles in gum are attracted to each other so its difficult to separate them. kinda like pulling a rubber band

i know a girl that chewed gum for about 10 minutes and it dissolved. so thats not true. it got sticky then it just disappeared.

oh it does... it just takes a looong time. i once fell asleep with a piece of gum in my mouth and when i woke up the next afternoon it was almost completely dissolved
