It all depends on the shape you have. Length multiplied by width gives you the area of the rectangle. Some others you might use might be:
Triangle: 1/2bh
Trapezium: 1/2h(a+b)
Kite: 1/2xy
Circle: pi r squared
paralleogram: lb
There are plenty more but you get the gist of it!

the area of an object depends on what the object is.
A rectangle's area is the product of it's length and width.
The area of a triangle is one half the product of it's length and width.
The area of a circle is it's radius squared times pi.
The area depends on what object it is, and how it's shaped.

length x width= area. of squares and rectangles. triangles are diff though. the area of a triangle is height x base= then divide that times 2 and that equals area of a triangle.
