Yes, poetry.com is a scam, in that it's not a contest. All entries are chosen to be included in the published book, regardless of the quality of your poem. It's a form of vanity publishing disguised as a competition. There's more information on http://www.eliteskills.com/writing_scams/poetry.com.scam.php and plenty of other sites if you want to search yahoo to look.
However, nothing I've read on the many sites out there suggests that they don't send out the books. If you've paid your money then they undoubtedly will send you a book with your poem in it, hidden amongst all the other poems that are there. And if they've said you should get it by Summertime then you should do so.

It's a TOTAL SCAM! Look them up on the net using the search poetry.com scam. 20/20 did a show on these rip-off artists. The book is sold at an INFLATED price and by some miracle, your poem will be on the first page! WOW!! If you know someone else who orders this piece of garbage, there will be a different poem on the first page of their edition. I know that sounds far fetched, but it is all true and I want everyone to know what a scam this is. People put their heart into writing something and these PIGS take advantage of them.

It is a scam in that they will publish literally anything as long as you buy the book. Try sending in the worst poem you can possibly imagine and see how great they say it is when they write you back asking you for money for the book. Yes, it is a scam. If you surfed through the Resolved Questions, you would have seen many many questions about this. Pax - C.

I fell for this twice a few years ago. Received quality large, nicely bound anthologies @ 49.95 each at that time, if I remember correctly. My piece was hidden amongst the pages of hundreds of other scribes...unfortunately many of them possibly should not have been any where except a waste-paper bucket.
If too late to retrieve your money then display it proudly as a reminder of one of your more costly mistakes...and enjoy seeing your name in print. It could be a lot worse - you might have ordered several for Christmas gifts for those you love.
They send the book, all of us 'wanna be poets' have made us easy targets in the 'how do I get published' frenzy.
Good Luck.

Cancel the check.
It ain't worth it.
For the money you paid for the piece of crap you are going to get, you could have self-published a whole collection of your own poetry and printed several copies for friends and family at lulu.com.
They are one of the most notorious scams in the industry. AND they will just keep hounding you once you buy from them. Cancel the order and move on. You can't even list it as a publishing credit. People will laugh at you if you try to pass it off as a legitimate credit.

yes, it is a scam. a person I know actually bought the book... and for the price, it's horrible the thing is no bigger than a pocket dictionary. and if you notice, they say that you have been awarded this wonderful award... but you have to pay $90 for it. It's a way to get money for them. And it ruins poetry for some people.

It's a scam...you can send them a sentence and they'll publish it; as long as you buy the book.
