A WEP is like a password of sorts that you need to access a secure wireless connection. If you don't know the WEP to that secure connection, you can not access it using anything that has a wireless receiver, such as your PSP.

Its a passcode for a router on a computer. If u are looking for a network to use to get on the internet, then u have to choose one without a WEP code. this secures ur network, and without it, noone can use ur wireless connection for free. But if u just walk out side, and search for a network, u'll mostlikely find one without a WEP code. Most coffee shops and Mcdonalds have wireless without WEP codes to get in. To access internet on my PSP, u have to type in a WEP code because my wireless internet at home is secured, but since its my home, then I know the WEP code. It is usually a 26 character code including letters and numbers. Hope this helps!

That is the key to get into a wireless network. When your wireless laptop senses a connection, it will prompt you for the WEP key. It's like a password, so you can't just hijack anybody's internet connection and protects your wirelss portal from someone else using it.
