I would prefer something not too traditional. I'm 17 and my partner is 18. We have hip-hop and jazz backgrounds and are performing a Tango for the first time so music which has some kind of modern-ness to it would be nice.

Hip-hop songs with a good possibility for Tango-ness would be cool as well. Violins are a huge plus. I will actually choose a best answer so no BS responses please.

Thank you,
Franklin

Look into music by Gothan Project. "Santa Maria" is a good Tango. You can find the sample of the song on http://www.danceshopper.com/ballroom-dance-music.The%20Ultimate%20Ballroom%20Album%207 (last track on 2nd CD)
How about someting very untraditional: "Five To One" by Doors? This one is a bit dark in my opinion, but if it fits in with the rest of the show it might work.

Hmm, if you have been spending 2 hrs a day in a studio in the past 3 years and now you can't find any new Tango music maybe the reason is that there isn't any. The good news is your audience is probably not as tired of every single Tango tsong you have heard. I can only suggest that you go to http://www.ballroomdancers.com and go through each and every sample of Tango they have - it is conveniently listed all together by dance, you won't have to dig through every single CD. http://www.dancevision.com also has a lot of stuff. Or, any music that has correct tempo will do. I have seen a wonderful showcase by a teenage couple - it was Foxtrot to a Nirvana song. If you look outside the typical ballroom - you will find plenty of stuff. Another good resource is DVDs with professional showcases - they try to use the mucis that is less typical or at least not as over-used.

What you're describing is what Gotan Project does, but don't overlook the older but still striking Piazzola works.

you answered your own question... mix it up a bit and be yourself! if hip hop is your background find a song that fits .. maybe NEZ hip hop is dead? maybe even Gwens wind it up song?
why violins? try charros accustic guitar solo , but if you want to go with the grain yanni has a tango song out.
try safri duo they might have one or maybe you can use prodigy "smack my biotch up" that would be awesome!
