It is very important that you see the trainer or PT for your team about this right away. There is a condition called myositis ossificans that occurs when a person partially tears a muscle, and there is bleeding into the tissue. Basically what happens is that the body responds to the blood in the tissue by laying down some bone tissue there - and then you have real problems!
So, if there is a chance you have a quad tear (and sounds like there is a chance of that), your team physician/trainer/PT needs to be informed.
(Don't panic - i'm not saying for sure that you have myositis ossificans. . .i just want someone who knows what they are doing to rule it out for you, and get you pointed toward some rehab for this injury. Good luck!)

If you use heat, do NOT use dry heat and do not use it for more than about 15 minutes at a time.
Wrap a hot water bottle with a damp towel. This will help draw out the inflammation.
Try to get as much rest on that muscle as possible, and be careful about overusing it.
I understand that you want this track meet to be a success, but you may have to sacrifice a little running until the muscle heals.
You can also soak in Epsom Salt baths. Epsom salt also helps to pull out toxins (which result from torn tissues).
Massage gently. Don't force pressure with the massage, but rather keep rubbing gently and tolerably.
Your body heals itself IF you encourage the blood flow to the area, drink plenty of fluids, eat a healthy diet and get proper rest.

Alternate between a warm compress and an ice pack. The warm compress helps circulation and the ice pack (first 24 hours) helps minimize swelling. Massage and light movement will help - needs time. If pain persists after 72 hours, have a doctor look at it - could be more serious.

As much as it hurts, KEEP MOVING IT! Don't run any marathons anytime soon, but don't lay around the house either. Take either Tylenol or Aleve for the pain and try heat packs to relieve the tension.

If it doesn't get better soon you may want to go for physical therapy to get your back to your best as soon as possible.

good luck!

I just pulled something in my leg the other day and thought I wasn't going to be able to walk!! I rubbed Tiger Balm on it that night and again in the morning and have been walking and it is now gone. In 4 days.
