you don't put sealer on headgaskets.

Normally, most head gaskets are better off without sealer, but, yes, I have used that Permatex Copper spray on stuff and it seems to work pretty darn good. Just make sure the gasket surfaces are clean enough to eat off of and FLAT! Cannot stress this enough, clean and flat. Otherwise, you'll be doing another head gasket in the future.

Good heavens! Don't do it! If you use a sealer you will actually cause the gasket to fail! Just use a head gasket and torque the bolts according to manufacturers specifications.

This may sound silly, but you use nothing at all. Make for certain your deck surfaces on engine block, and cylinder head are impeccably clean and free of all gasket material. Next, use a high quality no-retorque head gasket (personally, i recommend and use fel-pro, but there are several other high quality brands. Also, make sure your head bolts can be reused. Some manufacturers use torque to yield head bolts, which means when the bolts are torqued, they stretch. And upon removal, they must be scrapped, and new head bolts used. (Ford was most common for using these special bolts)
Then, install head and follow repair manual to exact detail using different patterns and steps to torque head bolts to manufacturers specifications.
I have always used this method, and never failed. That's how I was trained in Automotive Technology.

The head gasket itself. Never use anything else - when the head is torqued down, it will squeeze out into the cylinders, oil galleries and water jacket - with these even partially blocked, you can kiss your engine goodbye.

Remember that you can never re-use a head gasket. Always buy a new one - even if the head was only on for a minute.

If you're asking about an existing leaking head gasket and loosing water or something like that there are a number of products at any auto parts stores that work marginally.
