They can. You have to separate the male from the litter.
You'll also discover that the female might also eat the young as well.
Make sure that there is TONS of food or they will eat their young.

Yes, a male Syrian will kill their young. Never keep any 2 Syrians together. They are solitary animals and need to be housed that way. The male and female should have never have been housed together to start with, if her babies are more then 24 hours old and the male was still with her at that point, she may be having another litter in about 15-17 days from the time the first litter was born.
1) "If they are Syrian (Golden, Teddybear, Standard, Fancy) Hamsters the hamsters should be separated as Syrian Hamsters are solitary and will fight when they become mature and so should have separate cages."
"Syrian (also known as Teddybear, Golden, Fancy or Standard) Hamsters are solitary and fight as they mature. They can inflict serious injury on each other and so must be kept in separate cages."
Once a Syrian is four months +/-, they all must be housed in their own cage for they can fight to the death. We raise Syrians of many colors and have had none stay in the same cage beyond 4 1/2 months, the 2 males tried to kill each other. We were trying to see at what age they do begin to not accept each other any longer when their brothers/sister and they started to chatter their teeth at first, then we had to quick remove the aggressor.

You should always separate the male and female before she gives birth because YES they will kill and sometimes eat there young. It isn't pretty but it seems to be the way of things in the hamster world...

You should separate the male from the female. In addition, if you handle the babies too much, the mother will eat them because they smell like you.

Yes, Fathers and mothers will eat their young. The males should be seperated immediately after birth, and the mothers should be seperated once the little ones become self dependant.
