They are bigger than normal mosquitoes, but they do not bite. They slip in unnoticed and fly around bugging the crap out of me. They arent hard to kill because they aren't real fast.

Probably crane flies (Family Tipulidae). They are actually one of the largest orders of flies (by number of species), but little is known about them zoologically because they have almost zero economic impact on human society.

They aren't pests (although their larvae can sometimes cause some minor damage to lawns - these are known as leatherjackets), they don't bite people, they don't damage crops or trees. They just bumble about, making more crane flies and not really bothering anyone unless they happen to wander into a house.

Some people call them 'mosquito-eaters' or 'mosquito-hawks' and claim they eat mosquitoes. Unfortunately, this is not true. Many of them don't even feed as adults, living only a few days to mate.

Their larvae look kind of like leathery pickles.

It sounds like crane flies. They look like giant mosquitoes. There are many species of crane flies; some eat nectar and some don't eat at all during the adult stage. They mate, lay eggs, and die.
The larvae of some species can be pests in the grassy lawn. They eat grass roots before pupating and emerging as adults.
Sometimes they are called daddy long legs, although this also refers to cellar spiders or a harvestmen (a spider-like arachnid).
