Do you know that in absolute numbers there are probably more slaves today and a larger slave trade than in 1800?
Not proportionately larger--no, 1800 saw a far larger slave trade--but in absolute numbers.
Much of the current slave trade involves women being sold into prostitution.
One of the mottos of the American Anti-Slavery Group [http://www.iabolish.org/slavery_today/primer/index.html is "Slavery is Not History."]

Slavery is and was WRONG, it has happened over hundreds of years, to hundreds of cultures, think about it, every time there was a war, they took slaves or worse. Going over and over it now is not going to make it RIGHT. I feel ashamed that my country was involved with such a disgraceful act of inhumanity.
We ALL need to move on, learn from our mistakes, surely. I cannot and refuse to be held responsible for what my forefathers did before I was born, I can only promise myself that if its within my power, nothing like that shall ever be allowed to happen again,
We need to step on the RADICALS, the RACISTS, the TROUBLE MAKERS, Anti- anything that does not suit them, the NERDS that stomp up trouble and bad feeling on here alone.
There are some little mindless and cowardly morons that hide behind the anonymity on this site, giving the big I am, stirring trouble and bad feeling with anyone else that is different from them, even terrorists are not that pathetic. There are some even imitating the race they hate the most! For heavens sake, I am seriously thinking of pulling out of this simply because YAHOO allows them room and does nothing about them.
It has to STOP here NOW and its up to each and every one of us to play a part, for our Grand children's sakes. Surely we are better then this???

The trading of slaves has never ended. We must be ever vigilant. Just because it isn't obvious in our own societies does not mean it is not happening.
