I really just don't think Ryan Miller is that good. The Sabres have won alot of games this year because they have scored alot of goals. Come play-off time, that could/will spell trouble. Just another reason that they won't go far. No need to get all angry about it, it is just an observation.

Fleury is a good one-he gets quite a bit of love on this site too and he has been inconsistant. I actually might be the only person in the world that would open the play-offs with Thibeault

I'll reserve judgement on Hasek because he has done it before. With him it's always according to which guy shows up (if he shows up at all). In a related story, I did hear the league has warned him about his diving...finally, 10 years too late.

In regards to starting Thibault- if you start him and he does great then super but if he doesn't then it is easy to bring in Fleury. If you do this vice versa and Fleury falters then you don't want to shatter his confidence going forward. I would go with experience in goal in the play-offs and Thibault has been the better goalie for the last while so therefore is hotter too.

DHP- 7 wins actually but has won like 6 of his last 8. Therefore your sources are moot.

It really pains me to say it, but I agree with you about Miller. I have just never been sold on the guy. (Of course, there is the small matter of my being a rather staunch fan of Martin Biron, but I digress.) No goal tender who has only had one shutout all season and whose team is where the Sabres are as far as goals against can be called anything more than "very good". I think the bandwagoneers and people who haven't been watching the Sabres too long forget what truly great goal tending looks like. I started watching hockey in 1999 (I was 11) so I remember when the Sabres had great goal tending in Hasek. Miller loses his cool far too easily, he lets too many goals past him in crucial situations, and he doesn't seem to be suited for playing all season long (or all playoffs long :-/ ) without a good break here and there. I love my Sabres and I think Miller is far better than average and even has the potential to be great, but he isn't there and I am sick of people putting him on a pedestal like he's the spawn of Hasek or something. If the Sabres go far in the playoffs, it will be mostly on their speed and goal-scoring power, not falling back on their goal tending.

Rick Dipietro for the ridiculous contract os overrated. letsgopens I begin to wonder if you watch Penguin games. Fleury has had many great games. The offense has not been good at times as well. Jocelyn is great goalie too. So the pens have a great tandem which is more than most teams have. So I agree with yankee about the most overrated. Gd is right there have been some bad goals that fleury has let in but I would argue this what goalie hasn't let in bad goals. Even Brodeur has and he is on pace to shatter the records Roy has. I have heard miller mentioned and thomas and I think they haven't played enough to qualify as overrated. He might end up as an average goalie but I its still too early to tell. But I would also say Biron is overrated. Buffalo was smart to let him go. Oh and I would also agree Hasek fits the overrated category.

I'm a NYR and even I have to admit that Rick DiPietro has been awesome this year. With him in the lineup the Isles have a chance at making the playoffs. Last week he singlehandedly kept them in a game against the NYR when he made 56 saves.
His 15 yr contract might be ridiculous. But then again in 10 years his contract might be a bargain. Who knows?
I think the most overrated goalies in the league are probably
Khabibulin, Hasek, Turco, Miller and Ward.
In my opinion the most underrated is Kolzig.

I think Miller may be a tough choice as your first. I have seen alot of his games first hand, and yes you may look at the stats and say wow he is quite overrated. The only thing is, and you did point this out, the sabres score alot of goals. They do this with a very aggresive fast attack, and HEAVILY lean on goaltending. Its not unccomon that the sabres will get into shootouts that end up with and 8-5 score, killing his numbers. He can make soem big saves. Hasek would be my choice, hes lost a step or 3. hah

Fleury. Deffinetly FLEURY! I love the Pens, but they're going out early in the playoffs if they play Fleury. Thibault is quite a bit better. Fleury is very bad at playing the angles for an NHL goalie, and he is terrible in the clutch ( World Juniors a couple years ago). He is a very flashy goalie, and very entertaining to watch, but he's awful at saving the puck.

I live in Pittsburgh, and I absolutely hate Marc-Andre Fleury...he has yet to steal a game for us this year and has 35 wins only because he gets offensive help
I would definetly start Jocelyn Thibault in the play-offs...he has the experience, and he is not that bad: 6-8-2, .911 SV%, 2.79 GAA and that was before today's stellar performance...the only reason he doesn't have more wins is because his goal support is horrid....40 Penguins goals in his 15 Starts in net

Lets not get too into Jocelyn Thibault here his record has been dismal with the pens in years past, sure he is a good goaltender but not better than Fleury. 35 wins to what 6?
Rick Dipietro is the most overrated goalie in the NHL

NOT TOSKALA OR NABOKOV!!!!!... just look at the top 3 goalies in the hot tab!!!!
Ok.. back to the question:
I'd hafta say that it's.... hmm........ Miller, Fleury, and Luongo. The first two are explained above. Luongo... don't get mad... but he's just not been able to help his team get anywhere. For the first time, the team he is on is going to the playoffs. Hes a good goalie in the league, but he's never been to the playoffs!!!! He can't seem to help his team enough in order to get them ina good spot to make the playoffs, for they are slipping in the standings right now.

Ryan Miller is kinda like Grant Fuhr...he will let in a lot of goals but he will make the big save when you need it...(big stop on Sundin late in the game last night, even though he was pulled tonight)
Is Khabibulin overrated now? The BlackHawks don't have a defence but it makes you wonder?
What about Cujo? Or Turco? Roloson?

Miller's a good pick. Hasek is also overrated now. He's nowhere near as good as he once was, but from the defensive style of play Detroit plays, it may seem like he still does to the untrained eye. You'll notice that while his GAA is one of the best in the league, his Save % is nothing special.
