There are still several monarchies in europe although their kings / queens are usually only representing their countries; the power is at the parliaments:
Great Britain, Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Sweden
In Liechtenstein and Monaco I'm not sure how much power the monarchs are possessing

The last monarch of France (Napoleon III) had to resign after he lost the German-French war 1870/71; a republik was established

The german and austrian monarchs had to resign after they lost the first World War; a republik was established in both countries

In east european countries the communist revolutions eliminated all monarchies.

As far as Russian monarchy is concerned: the last Russian monarch (tsar) Nikolaj II was sentenced to death by the new government after the revolution of 1917. He was killed together with his family: wife, daughter and the only boy son (Alexej). So there was no one left to inherit the crown. Though there are legends that one of his daughters (Princess Anastacia) somehow managed to survive, but these are just rumours - no evidence.
Historically it happened that in all countries monarchy was somehow replaced by another forms of state rule (republic, dictatirship). And this happened in 2 main ways - through limitation of the monarch's power or through violent overthrow. As a result, the first way lead to preservation of monarchy in it's symbolic form (like in the UK, Spain or Belgium), the second way lead to liquidation of the whole monarch branches. If someone survived, it's only distant relatives - and I doubt they have any legal rights to claim for the throne.
