If you're talking about your average beef-steak or roma, they don't do well in hanging baskets. Sweet 100's do well and there is another variety but I can't remember the name but they grow in clusters, almost grape-like. Start the seeds in sterile potting soil and once they are about three inches high you can transfer them into the basket. You can direct sow as well. Keep the soil moist. Hang in a semi-shaded area or in full sun but not where they receive to much reflected heat or the leaves will burn. Keep them well-watered. Depending on your climate, if it gets really hot or windy you will have to water them to the point of saturation every day. Have fun!

This may sound funny, but it works. Get a empty, clean 5 gal. bucket, with lid. Fill bucket, with a good quality potting soil, to within 1 inch of top. Place lid on bucket and turn upside down. Cut 2-3 inch hole in the center of the bottom of bucket.
Water dirt real good and let set over night. Next day place tomato plant in hole and plant, then water it real good. After a week, when you can tell it has taken root, then with help, turn bucket up right side up and hang.
Once tomato plant starts to grow, you not only have a unique
hanging basket, but an easy way of getting tomatoes off.

Sorry Tx, greater wisely Indeterminants bear all season, Determinants flower and bear fruit as quickly as. guess you should objective Al, if the putting basket became sufficiently vast. Tomatoes are heavy feeders and could dissipate the nutrition of a basket in the present day - won't have sufficient room to assist the roots. you should objective making use of a bucket (make certain to make drain holes) as a putting field. Chilis like finished, all day solar (tomatoes too) and are especially hard flora, drought tolerant, thrive on overlook. advance length by making use of fertilizing (this is how the adult males get those monster pumpkins). sturdy success
