It's basically a self-help book that claims to resolve any issue you might be dealing with, but all through the power of positive thinking and self-affirmation.

So, in real language, you really don't have to do any hard work or exert any energy to solve your problems. You just have to read the book and think positively about your problems, and they'll all go away. People love easy solutions, thus it's a popular book.

If you're a fan or want to check it out, apparently you can get a free book/DVD of the secret just by filling out some online surveys: http://www.usfreeads.com/747231-cls.html

The big deal is that people will believe anything and spend their hard-earned money to try and learn how to do things the easy/magic/instant way. I missed it on Oprah but I got the gist from reading about it on her site. The theory is that if I put out positive energy, things will come to me...maybe, but I think that's more because people will like me and want to help me, rather than cosmic energy waves. And how can you prove that it works? If things don't come to me, they will just say "you weren't positive enough". And doesn't that mean anyone with mental issues like depression are genetically screwed? It's REAL easy for people who are successful to tell you "the secret" works. But how do they know it wasn't just luck or any number of other factors? In my experience, luck plays a reasonable-sized role in becoming successful - right place, right time. People will believe anything - i.e., where I put my trash basket will affect my love life. I have some "energy-producing" rocks to sell to anyone who buys this crap.
