In the play I'm reading, the number 3 reoccurs every so often. (for example, three times, at 3:00, etc.) All I'm wondering is if the number 3 would be a symbol or motif? Or any other plot element kind of thing...
Thanks

i once remember someone telling me that in the old testament the number 3 is repetitive. otherwise repetition is usually a representation/symbol for something; a foreshadow on events that will occur in threes or at a time with a three, etc. Im not too sure about motif/ve but it definitely has a role.

Its very important to pick up on things like repetition, often in analysis assignments there is a major focal point on that.

if its a famous play you can check sparknotes.com and see if there's a mention of it, i dont usually recommend sparknotes but it seems like your actually doing the work so brushing up on a few details or getting more contextual information is certainly not harmful from sparknotes.com

Good luck!

I would consider it more a motif than a symbol. It is a recurring theme in the work rather than an object or person that represents an idea.

It is symbolism. For what I'm unsure since I don't know the name of the play. It's probably not foreshadowing, but could contribute to the symbolism.

We're reading Macbeth in school right now... the number three is accociated with the supernatural.... So is rhyming, etc....
