I would think no. Avatar, the Last Airbender is American animated television series and anime is only Japanese animation. Although it is influenced by elements of anime, it is not considered anime because it's made in the America.

Avatar is considered as an anime. It also goes for the show "Kappa Mikey". You see, all Japanese has their own style of drawing which makes every show different from one another. Anime is a short word used by many which means "animation". And even though it is not featured on Animax, Avatar will still be called an anime.

As a purist I would say no because it is written by American writers. I usually think of anime as originating from manga - or at least having Japanese writers.

Avatar is sent to Korea for its animation, so I'm not really sure where that puts it =D

Either way, it is the best American cartoon out there!

Strictly speaking, anime is a Japanese word, so the word anime applies to an animated movie made by Japanese. Just like manga is a Japanese word. In Korea, a manga is called manwha. I get the impression that Airbender is more Chinese and American than Japanese. I could be wrong though.

A lot of American companies these days employ Japanese animators and illustrators in their projects. If you look at the credits of a lot of Disney movies, you will see a lot of Japanese names.

It kind of looks like an anime, has the storyline of one, made by japanese people [maybe not, but I always see japanese names on the credits], has strange creatures, different worlds... but I don't really consider it to be one. I guess I can't accept the fact that Nick can create a great anime show...

Depends on what you mean by "anime"

Do you mean "cartoon" or like "anime" that is from Japan?

If you're talking definition wise ("anime" means "animated cartoon" in Japanese) then yes, it would be considered anime.

Though if you are talking origin wise, such as it was drawn, produced and all that stuff in Japan, than no. ATLA is produced here in America.

Yes, actually... but most animes have a manga counterpart... which avatar doesnt (except for the Tokyopop cinemanga). even though its on Nickelodeon, still is a anime.

some say that it rather is, yet persaonally I evaluate it to be a sketch, like the stuff on television for infants on Saturday mornings... It is going over the best, and is merely too attempt-confusing with the emotions and not precise sufficient interior the unquestionably drawings...

Avatar is an American made cartoon. Even if it were sent overseas for production, the original concept is American. Therefore, it is not Japanese.
