That's my second favorite line of faux patriotic hogwash, right after "these colors don't run"
Freedom, by the mere nature of the meaning of the word, means.....drum roll, please..............wait for it..........
FREE.

Everyone is entitled to freedom as the founding Fathers thought. and as you claim.
But it isnt free.
The saying Freedom isnt free means there will ALWAYS be some evil dictator, despot, criminal, etc... that will try and take freedom away from you. To keep your freedom you must be willing to fight for it. even to the point of laying down your life so that you or others may have it.
Your freedom is paid for everytime a police officer is hurt or killed in the line of duty by some criminal who wants to take your freedom away.
Your freedom is paid for everytime a Soldier is killed in battle against the enemies of our nation or our Allies nation.
No one is told they have to be a Police officer. it is strictly voluntary. not even all that volunteer are accepted.
Same with our Military. it is strictly voluntary.
These men and women, Husbands and Wives, Sons and Daughters, Brothers and Sisters, Fathers and Mothers... These people Choose a life of service to defend your freedom so that you personally do not have to. They put their lives on the line so that you never have to.
MOVIE QUOTE: (A Few Good Men)
Lt. Weinburg: Why do you like them so much?
(talking about Marines)
Cmdr Galloway: Because they stand on a wall. Because they stand on a wall and say "Not tonight, Not on my Watch"
Another quote (Somewhat Paraphrased but still accurate)
"Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for our dead and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand at post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to."

Okay. Pretty straightforward. Freedom comes at a price. Take for example the price the Pilgrims paid to sail across the Atlantic and freeze and starve through their first winter at Plymouth Rock so they could worship as they chose. Take, for example, the blood of American soldiers fighting the British. Take, for example, the former slaves trying to protect their freedom and carve out lives for themselves during and after the Civil War. It's not that people aren't entitled to it; it's that there's always someone out to deprive them of it. Thus, if you like your freedom, you had better be willing to pay the price if you must.
Okay, somebody gave me a thumbs-down; what is there to disagree with in that answer? Whatever! So go live in the land of the poor and the home of the oppressed. I hear Afghanistan is nice this time of year.

Not everyone believes that way. Just look at the Dictator's around the world, Africa,Iran,China.Where you are told what to believe, what religions you will have.. our Independence from England was at a high cost.. Your right to speak freely here in this country did not come w/out cost.. had we not won WWII and things had gone the other way , entire cultures may have terminated.. please remember how the people of Iraq felt when we rolled into Baghdad, they were pulling down statues of their dictator.. freedom comes with a cost, sacrifice of human life for a better world.. IT IS NOT FREE..

Entitlement doesn't mean "free."
I honestly believe every person is entitled to good, basic health care - yet we know full well it isn't free.
I also believe everyone is entitled to freedom - yet I also know that this is also not free. It must be constantly defended against those who aspire to domination and control.

It's not free. It took blood sweat and tears to form an American democracy and it takes work and dedication to preserve it. If you don't try, the Neocons will steal it from you and you won't be free anymore.

Freedom isn't free because we have to make sacrifices to keep iot.
First, our soldiers protect freedom with their lives.
Second, we must accept lowered security to keep our freedom. One could make a strong argument that 9/11 would have never happened if we were a police state and not a free one.
Freedom is never free...you must sacrifice to keep it.
