Jeter's defense has been criticized throughout his career.[9][10] For years statistical analysts have pointed out that he makes fewer plays than most shortstops.[11][12] At this point, according to most defense metrics, it's virtually indisputable that on a day-to-day basis, he's a below-average defender, despite the fact that he has won 3 Gold Glove awards.[13][14] The book The Fielding Bible by John Dewan contains an essay by Bill James that explains why Astros shortstop Adam Everett is far superior to Jeter defensively. James analyses the available evidence (four separated methods relying on a different set of facts and based on exhaustive research), and suggests that Derek Jeter could be the worst defensive shortstop of all time, he concludes: "Giving him every possible break on the unknowns, he is still going to emerge as a below average defensive shortstop." The conclusion of the analysis done by Baseball Info Solutions' method (based on systematic observation) was that Derek Jeter "was probably the least effective defensive player in the major leagues, at any position."[15]

He has also been often cited as the most overrated player in Major League Baseball, by critics and by other players, while he was voted the league's best shortstop by fellow players just one year earlier.[16][17]

Honestly I have to go with Jose Reyes as the best because he clearly is. He has made great strides. Can turn a game with instance

2. Miguel Tejada - Not much else to say, a great force and expect big numbers this season. Numbers were down with Attitude they will be back again.

3. Edgar Renteria - extremely underrated but if you look at stats he is a very consistent player and a great fielder at the least...

1. Jose Reyes...still very young with 5 tool abilities, a potential Hall of Famer

2. Hanley Ramirez...just a kid, he has maybe even better 5 tool skills than Reyes....will be fun seeing who starts the next 10-12 All Star games between him and Reyes and man does this kid have unbelievable range!

3. Miguel Tejada....the best pure hitting SS maybe of all time and the only pure power hitting SS playing today. Not quite as good defensively as the other 2 but still has a good glove.

Honorable mention for M. Young...Mr. Consistancy both offensively and defensively,

D. Jeter... I cant agree with the overrated statement, he is one of the best clutch players in the game today regardless of position and has to do it under the microscope of N.Y.

I have to agree with the earlier answer....if ARod were playing SS I would likely rank him as the top SS in the game.

Reyes is definitely in the top three, as would probably be Young. Tejada may be slipping past his prime. Rafeal Furcal is a pretty good shortstop, as is Jimmy Rollins of the Phillies, and Omar Vizquel- yes, past his prime but still a great fielder.

Watch a Yankees game and you'll CLEARLY see that CAPTAIN Derek Jeter of the Yankees is the BEST SS in baseball.

Reyes is the overrated SS. He's nowhere near as clutch as Jeter and I still have'nt seen Reyes jump into the stands to catch a foul ball or make a nearly impossible toss to his catcher with a playoff game on the line.

I would say the following
3 Migeal Tejada
2 Jose Reyes
and at #1 the best shortstop in the game is

A-Rod

even if the yankees don't realize it.

Your definition of 'ever' seems to be 'by way of fact 2008'... a million. Roy Halladay 2. Dave Stieb 3. Joe Carter 4. Carlos Delgado 5. Jimmy Key Jays are stressful to p.c.. by way of fact they have had plenty turnover - Alomar, Barfield, McGriff, Bell, Fernandez, Kent, chippie all had plenty of their fulfillment on different communities. Edit: trustworthy sufficient, and for the final 2 years you have a sturdy checklist. yet Peter is physically powerful, and that i advise this respectfully, you need to take it sluggish to benefit greater with regards to the Jays historic previous. that is an engaging historic previous and there have been multiple large gamers who performed for the Jays.
