ing does it when they're verifying your linked account. I know I've had someone else do it too but I can't remember who.

I was in banking for 39 years and I have to say that I can't remember ever seeing a legitimate company depositing into a clients account. The way they verify this information is to send a draft through your account with a 0 amount to see if it goes through. Generally companies want a VOIDED check sent to them for verification. Please, never give out your account number to anyone unless you initiated the conversation and it is a company that you are very familiar with. No legitimate person or company will call you and ask for your account numbers. This is a very common con-job which fly by night places do, especially to the older generation. Please be aware of anyone or anyplace that initiates the call and asked for personal information. If this should happen to you, ask for a return telephone number to call them back and usually they will hang up immediately.

Paypal does this to verify that your account exists. They actually make two deposits.

no actually there are many companies that may do that...my online bank ING Direct and I think Paypal did that...just make sure that it is something that you initiate and that it is not solicited from you

None! The only reason someone would ever ask for your bank account info is to pull money out, not put money in.
