do i need the word that in there? also where does the period go before of after the quotes? Please reply ASAP anyone who is a good writer and knows grammar thanks

no you don't need the word 'that', but if you keep it lose the quotation marks around 'I miss you'. and the period is fine.

the period goes after the quotes and you can leave or take out that
