It really does vary. I recommend taking at least one day off from work, because you don't know how you'll react to the anesthesia and, more importantly, you don't know how you'll be feeling emotionally. But do you absolutely *need* to take time off from work for physiological reasons? -- Not usually, no. As another responder noted, you will not be allowed to drive yourself home after the procedure, and you also don't know how you'll react to the anesthesia (unless you've had this particular anesthesia before).

I've had to have a few D&C procedures and have learned that I have a hard time with twilight anesthesia (it's used a lot for D&C procedures; you are completely out but it is not general anesthesia and you are breathing on your own). The day after a D&C though one is, usually, fine in the physical sense. As for bleeding, I've had that vary as well -- with my last D&C I had virtually no bleeding at all afterwards.

I don't know why you're having a D&C but I will say this: I've miscarried naturally and I've had D&C's...and I'll take the latter ANY day.

Good luck.

Expect at least a day to two days of recovery. I was okay from the anesthetic (general anesthsia) after a few hours, but still very tired. They will not let you drive yourself home, and you should expect bleeding like a heavy period. It makes you really sleepy... so go home (if you aren't in the hospital still) and take a long nap. After that, it will be pretty much like a really heavy period, if you do not have any complications such as excessive bleeding (hemorraging).

None. Unless you would like to take a day off to cope with the lost. I had no problems after my D&C but it may depend on how far along you were. I was12 weeks. I'm sorry for your lost.
