hi jr! i think the only way to do this is to manage ur music manually - then u control what playlists/songs are copied to ur ipod. there is a setting u need to make in itunes - give this a try:
1. start itunes and plug in ur ipod.
2. on the menu that appears in itunes when u plug ur ipod in, click the Summary tab, then check the box next to "manage music and videos manually".
3. on the left side of the itunes window where ur ipod shows up in the list, click the arrow just to the left of ur ipod name. the arrow will turn into a "down arrow" and display a list beneath ur ipod. click the "Music" item in this list and the music on ur ipod will be displayed in the right side of the itunes window.
now u can delete whatever songs/playlists u want from ur ipod, and u can drag whatever songs/playlists u want from ur itunes library to ur ipod! hope this helps!
once u get ur playlists on ur ipod sorted out, please subscribe to my FREE video podcast on iTunes: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=183309259

Yes, this is possible. All you have to do is go to iTunes. When you plug in your iPod, it should pop up as a little virtual iPod on your computer. When you click on it, there should be the settings for your iPod. ( iCal, Address Book, etc.) If you go to 'Playlists', it will give you the option of putting it manually on your iPod. Unfortunately, this is the only way to keep a playlist off or on without having them all on your iPod - manual labor. I feel like I'm rattling on now, but I think you have the picture. Just put the playlists you want on your iPod by clicking on them in the little text box-thing. It should have them all. Hope this helps.

I think you have to plug in you iPod, open iTunes, then go to the iPod icon at the bottom of the screen. Click on it and a window will show up. Then, I believe it's the Updating Tab, go to the top and click on the tab and there you will see a faded list of your playlists. Click on the preference circle that reads "Update Only These Playlists" and choose which ones you don't want on there. I hope this can help you.

you make sure when you set your ipod options that you have it to set manually so you can drag whatever you want from your itunes to your ipod. That includes music, playlist, movies, podcasts, etc.

Well, you just have to highlight all the playlists/songs that you want that is what I do with my Limited Edition Nano. The LE Nano cannot download songs anyother way but this.
