I have read of numerous complaints about weapons jamming. In Vietnam we had to clean and lubricate with what ever was available. We used diesel many times since it was easy to get and it would clean and lubricate. It worked real well on the 60s and 50 cal. Modern US small arms are made to close tolerances and must be lubricated. I would rather have one that is a little slopy from lube than one that is bone dry.

I salute you veteran, thank you for my freedom by the way!
I use "Hoppes" to clean it well and then use "Militek-1" weapons grade lubricant or "Hoppes lubricant. Our AR's seem to work great!
A wet gun is a happy gun!

I have M-15A4. The only jamming I have experienced is with UMC Ammuntion. Come to find out, UMC 223 is subject to stove piping so STAY AWAY!!!! The best so far for me is Winchester 5.56. Since you have an M16 I am assuming yours can handle the increased head pressures of the 5.56 over the 223. Oh and yeah, ours jammed like crazy when I was in. 1990-1995. Things havent changed much. The rifle range weapons performed flawlessly because they were whomped out from years of service. They were the origianal M16 with the triangle hand guard and no forward assist.

Oh yeah and I almost forgot. We used pam nonstick cooking spray on the bolt and the locking lugs.

If diesel worked, try B100 biodiesel. It has the properties of diesel but is a MUCH better lubricant. And, of course, nontoxic. I'm sure the friendly local biodiesel brewers will be surprised you want a pint...

Interesting, did not know that you could legally own one. Maybe you could redirect this question to the military part of this forum.
