Figure $100 per sq ft for cheap construction, $150 for decent construction or $300 for high end custom. (not including land)
So for a 2,000 sq ft house that would be $200K for a cheap build, $300K for a moderate build and $600K for a custom nice build.

Whatever you decide, DO NOT BUY A MOBILE HOME!!!!!! I don't care how desperate you are, please listen to me! A mobile home is like buying a new car. The depreciation over the years will leave you with no equity and it will cost you four times the purchase price due to the loan interest. You have the right idea. But, the only way you can hope to do it without a mortgage is to start small. Build the smallest living area you can live in, so you don't have to pay rent. The rent money you save can go towards expanding the basic dwelling into larger living quarters. The problem today, is that everyone wants this emaculate home they work their backs off to afford. The ideal situation, is if you have not started a family yet. Then you only need one bedroom. Start like this; build a 20' x 30' "garage. Right now, it'll be your home. Lay out the plumbing for a laundry area and small bathroom with a shower stall. Pour a cement slab for the floor. Brick up three exterior walls and a frame wall in the front for a future garage door. Put a truss roof on, install 20 year plain asphalt shingles. Oh, don't forget to put one window in each outside wall. Have a 200 amp service put in and heat the home with baseboard electric. Use window A/C's for the summer. Inside, frame in the bath- laundry area, a small kitchen with the bare minimum appliances,ie, sink, two burner stove, microwave, small pantry and small counter. Make it an eat in kitchen, The rest of the area will be the living room, bedroom, tv room and whatever, all in the same room. Use a hide away bed, or sofa bed. When you are ready, you can start building more onto the house and eventually have what you want. I did it, my ex son in law did it and one of my neighbors, under my direction did it. Today, I am totally debt free. Own a great home, 90 acres of land, Raised 5 children , put 2 through colllage and currently renovating a home I bought dirt cheap.

You mentioned block house, do you mean cinder block? How much it cost per square foot to build a house depends on the market you are in and the availability of materials. I am not sure what the cost of building a cinder block house would be. Typical frame construction costs are about $100 per square foot for an average home.
