Yes, I abused drugs and learned the hard way that they're not worth the time I gave them. I do have to admit that if I hadn't nearly over-dosed one night, I'd be dead now. Ironically not from the drugs themselves, but by my abusive ex-husband. You see, when I didn't receive any help from him when I passed out on the bathroom floor for 36 hours, I realized that I needed help and away from the man that had made an attempt on my life twice before. My senses were dulled the night those two attempts were made and I didn't have the courage to just up and leave. But I gained that courage after that one night. And I never looked back.

And yes, I smoke. Smoking actually helps calm me. I have an anxiety disorder but I'm afraid of taking medication for it. I did try a few times, but I would end up sleeping half the day away and wouldn't be productive at all.

And, yes, I do have an occasional drink but I never go overboard anymore.

I guess I'm trying to say that everything has it's reasons and purposes. I wouldn't call it a "cycle of stupidity." I'd call it being a human making mistakes because that's what humans do, that's how humans learn. Some of us learn differently from others. Some of us have people that can teach us about the consequences of our actions before adolescent hits, others don't.

It's just all a part of life.

I blame it on the parents. If my parents would of taught me about such things as marijuana and how bad they affect you, then I would of never touched it, not even thought about it. So I blame parents, and rappers, rapping about how drinking and smoking "dope" is cool etc.

It is, regrettably, part of the human condition. H. sapiens did not survive as a species by being nice to its competitors -- or its predators.
