You may be refering to 'morning wood'. Morning wood is the spontaneous occurrence of a penile erection during sleep in the absence of any sexual stimulation. All men who are physically able to achieve erection do so during sleep, typically several times in a night. There are two reasons.
1. Bladder pressure makes the penis erect
2. The body test the body functions during sleep and the erection system is one of the functions tested, so it is erect in the am as the test is ongoing all night long.
