Why do people have to be so cruel sometimes?

Their cruelty is a manifestation of their own internal anger, possibly as a result of being abused themselves, likely at home.

The cruelty of others can hurt, but you will know that you are a better person and would never be cruel to someone else. You are the better person.

Some people are cruel. Sometimes people like this do change—and they can change, with God's help. Saul of Tarsus hated those who followed Jesus and was determined to stamp them out—but God changed his mean-spiritedness into love. As the Apostle Paul he spent the rest of his life urging others to follow Jesus.
Unfortunately, however, the older a person gets the less likely they are to change—or to allow God to change them. Jeremiah said about the people of his day, "Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil" (Jeremiah 13:23). Eventually, God brought judgment on them because of their refusal to listen to God and repent.
Down inside, cruel people are not happy people. They need to face their problems and open their hearts to Christ's transforming power.
We can't change ourselves—but God can, if we will only let Him. Remember Jesus' words: "What is impossible with men is possible with God" (Luke 18:27). It's true for your brother—and it's true for you also. What is Christ doing in your life?

I think its because they are having a bad day regarding whatever factors that may involve depending on various cases, therefore they behave badly as a way of venting. Which is not the proper way to deal with ones frustrations. Low self esteem also comes to play a role, certain individuals do not feel good about themselves so, they go out of their way to make others miserable. Others its the attention concept, any attention is good attention whether positive or negative.

because they can, and you can't change the people, but hopefully you can change the situation, try to avoid people that mistreat you.cruelty is a way of gaining power and a form of manipulation, think about it and try to stay a couple steps ahead of those kind of people and then you will not be in the position were they can take advantage of you.
