I need shoulder surgery and have been seeing a Dr. since Dec. After a battery of tests and monthly visits to his office, he didn't even remember why I was there. He came in the room looked at my chart and said "you pulled a muscle and you need physcal therepy." ( Iv' been in therepy since Dec.) At my last appointment he told me I needed surgery so I was confused and asked him if the torn muscle had healed and he said "what torn muscle?" After looking at my chart again he said "oh yes well here it is you need surgery." So here is my question. Should I let a Dr. who can't even remember me after treating me for 5 months cut me open? What do you think?

ABSOLUTELY NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You must have really good insurance.

Best advise get a second and a third if necessary opinion. Better be safe than sorry. Surgery, especially invasive surgery is nothing to take lightly.

Find another doctor, take your medical and therapy records with you and ask many questions. Like what is going to happen in surgery? What are the positive and negatives for post surgical problems, healing, etc.

Sweetie be informed and do not let someone cut on you who can not even remember what you there for to begin with. There are 1000's of unnecessary surgeries each day please do not fall victim to one of these.

Good luck.

Depends on his competency fame?, he might be seeing 30 or more patients every day, so difficult to remember every one, that's why a record is kept. Get another opinion & try to find about the surgical skills & operation success results of the surgeon u prefer & then decide which doctor? He might not good in remembering u, but he might be very good remembering his operation techniques. (& the particular part of the body is always marked with a permanent ink after confirming from the awake patient before operation)..if u r having repeated shoulder dislocations then the definite answer is surgery not physio therapies...Good Luck.

NO WAY!!! If this Dr. you have been seeing can't even read the charts right their is no telling what he would do to you in surgery. He could possibly do the wrong surgery on you. You need to get another doctor.

That's real scary! But don't feel you're alone because my doctor whom I've been seeing for over a year and a half does the same thing! I am changing doctors regardless! That's inexcusable in my book! My doctor goes from one extreme to the other. I go in one time he says I need to get a specific test. I go back for a check up and he tells me complete opposite. I go back again and he reprimands me for not following up on his recommendation of testing! You figure it out!
Do yourself a favor and find a competent MD!

You need to trust the person operating on you. Definately get a second opinion, at the very least. Have you tried any alternative tharapies? Acupunture can work wonders on things like that.

Absolutely get another doctor. You must have confidence in the doctor who is treating you. If this doctor is as you have described, I sure would run and never look back.
