The Rolling Stone says it's Jimi Hendrix, which is fair...but what's your opinion? Can the new guys John Frusciante, Jack White and John Mayer live up to legends like Hendrix, Page, Clapton?

Jimi Hendrix, Brian May, and Eric Clapton. They are all classics. John Frusicante can easily live up to them - he is an amazing modern guitarist. Jack White is from the White Stripes isnt he? Maybe, he is only ok not the best guitarest ever. No idea who John Mayer is. I would have to say Matt Heafy from Trivium, as he is only like 21 years old, and has amazing talent for someone that age... rock on dude!

Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Ritchie Blackmore, Brian May, Stone Gossard, Pete Towshend, Keith Richards,Jimmy Page, they are all great and I can't pick just one.. and i agree with the person who said Hendrix was out of this world, and Eddie van Halen is awesome too.

Dude, G3 is where it's at. Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai. They are incredible. Have to consider Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, though. They are legends, extremely talented. To answer your question, #1 in my opinion is Yngwie Malmsteen. Phenomenal.

I believe John Mayer can. He's already been labeled the "modern day Clapton". John's incorporated his unique fresh style with old school blues...which makes his music his own.
You have to admit, Johnny boy sure can RIP!

You're kidding me, right? Frusciante can barely play. Out of all the bad guitarists out there, Frusciante is one of the very worst. Mayer is flaunting his Stevie Ray Vaughn impersonation these days, but that's all it is. Jack White is OK but he's strictly ripping off the Yardbirds and Jeff Beck, bigtime. Check out Indigenous for a good guitar band.

James Marshall Hendrix was not human. He was an alien that came to earth for 27 years then left. Period. End of friggin' story.
No one is even in the same Universe as that guy.

Hendrix was light years ahead of his time! The guitar player in Stone Temple Pilots is awesome too. Bernard Butler from Suede, & the late great Mick Ronson!
